Project Details:

Working with contractors Bretton Architectural, ADC were involved with the extensive redevelopment project of Nova, Prestatyn as part of Denbighshire County Councils leisure investment project through the installation of 4 new automatic doors to the complex. The £4.4 million redevelopment of the facilities into a brand new attraction saw the creation of a new entrance and reception area, a 60 station fitness suite, new café and restaurant, two new retail units, a three storey soft play structure with unique pieces of play equipment, multipurpose studios and refurbishment of toilets and changing areas throughout the complex.

Commitment to Local Investment

Denbighshire County Council took over the Nova in January 2014.  Rather than allowing the ageing building to deteriorate further, the Council decided to invest nearly £5 million into its refurbishment, which resulted in more than £4 million being spent locally. The Council invested considerable time and effort in setting up the Centre, in time for trading to begin in December 2015 and transformed the building into the state of the art, premier leisure facility along the North Wales coast. Its transformation into a “first class” leisure facility marks a major milestone in the history of the coastal attraction and has resulted in over 30 jobs in the Nova and other leisure facilities across Denbighshire in one of the largest recruitment drives ever undertaken by the council.

Accessibility for all

Nearly 5,000 people visited the Centre in the first two weeks of opening, and over 26,700 people used the play area in the first six months. Denbighshire County Council were committed to providing a leisure complex that is accessible to all members of the public. An automatic powered entrance door has been located centrally and on a direct alignment to the main reception desk for clarity. As well as this automatic doors have been installed in both Nova’s cafe and restaurant entrances to improve facilities and ensure the building is DDA compliant. As one of North East Wales’ biggest indoor visitor attractions, it was vital that the large indoor leisure complex was accessible without compromising on the contemporary finish that had been achieved with the redevelopment. ADC installed 4 new automatic sliding doors to Nova offering an attractive, state-of-the-art, contemporary solution for door automation and access requirements.
